3rd International Conference

Reading Aloud to Kids Changes Lives

The conference was held on 16 October 2013 at the National Library of Technology in Prague under the auspices of the City of Prague. The conference was, amongst others, attended by the director of the Polish foundation ‘All of Poland Reads to Kids’, Elżbieta Olszewska, and the Czech psychologist and psychotherapist, Jeroným Klimeš. A short recording of a lecture by Jim Trelease (USA), the world’s largest promoter of reading aloud to children and the author of The Read-Aloud Handbook, was screened at the event.

At the end of the conference, the second year of the award ceremony took place, appreciating regional coordinators, i.e. the voluntary promoters of reading aloud to children from all over the Czech Republic.

A course of six seminars in the Moravian-Silesian Region, entitled ‘Reading Aloud to Kids Changes Lives’, strived to motivate adults (especially parents), children and youth to read and to develop love for literature via reading out loud and selecting valuable literature. The seminars also endeavoured to encourage parents and adults close to the child to build strong family bonds through collective reading.
